A New Life

By Amber

Chapter 2

I looked over at the man. "What's your name?"

"Miguel. That's the only name you need to know," he answered while the plane took off. He was trying to sleep, or at least I thought he was. His eyes were closed and his breathing became deep and even.

I carefully looked him over. He was in pain; there was a sheen of sweat on his face and although his breathing was even, it still wasn't like he was truly sleeping.

I narrowed my eyes, it was actually like he was faking it. Why? I mean, why would he fake sleep...I know. So I would try to escape...maybe try to relax. I almost doubted it. I wouldn't try to escape. Not in a plane, it wouldn't be worth it. I made a move to get up Actually, I did have to walk around. My knee had started to hurt and I knew that if I didn't walk around it would hurt even more by the time the plane landed.

"Where are you going?" the voice came from the seat next to me.

I closed my eyes briefly, "I have to walk around."

"Why?"

His eyes were open now. I glared at him and was suprised to see that his eyes were a beautiful amber color.

"I need to walk around. If I don't, my knee will hurt. And after that I won't be able to move it. Do you want a hostage that can't walk?" I explained.

He sighed and climbed out of the chair. "No. Let's go. I suppose that you want to check on your horse?"

I smiled a bittersweet smile. "Of course."

We walked back to where the horses (there were 5 other horses being shipped along with mine). He tripped over a piece of equipment - a bridle, actually - and I heard him start swearing. I glared at him (well, in his direction). I walked up to my horse and checked him over. I then decided that I was going to take my time in checking over all the horses.

"Why are you checking over all the horses?" he asked impatiently.

"Because they belong to my friends," I answered.

He sighed and rested his hand on his gun, "I hope you don't take too long."

I swallowed, "I don't plan on it."

I walked up the fleabitten gray, Milady and I checked her over. I looked over the dark bay (who reminded me of my captor) who I thought was called Overlord. The horse next to him was a golden thoroughbred named Fatal Attraction.

"Let's go," he said as he waved the gun in my direction.

"The plane's going to land," he told me.

I sighed and sat down as the plane started the descent.
