Let's Play Hide-and-Seek

By Susan J.

Chapter 3

Back on the island Miguel finished his assignment without any problems, and went back to the hotel. While he packed his things he couldn't help but think of the game.

"This game of hide and seek is going to be fun. I should be able to find her by tomorrow night," he said.

Miguel looked at his watch. "I think I'll get myself something to eat; this way it will give her a couple of more hours before I start to look for her." Miguel went downstairs to the dining room.

Later that night I found myself on another plane headed to another place. The plane landed in Las Vegas at 8:30 pm. I then took a taxi and arrived at the Mirage Hotel. I checked into a room and once in the room I put my suitcase on the bed and walked over to the window. I looked out to see the entire Strip lit up and people walking around having a good time. I couldn't help but smile as I thought about Miguel.

"Just think, this is where my adventures of Miguel began."

I knew I couldn't stay here longer than 24 hours because Miguel was very good at tracking people and I knew that he would be able to find me here. Since it was 9:30 pm I decided to get something to eat and maybe gamble a little. I went downstairs and did just that all the while keeping my eyes open for any sight of my hunter. I went to a few more casinos and walked around, by the time I got back to my room it was almost 2:00 am. I decided to get at least two hours of sleep before I left. I put out the clothes that I was going to wear and packed everything else just in case I needed to make a quick escape. Meanwhile Miguel was at my house in Miami going through the house looking for any clues of where I might have gone. He read a few papers that I had on my desk and smiled. He went upstairs and took a shower and then made himself something to eat. The phone rang and Miguel walked over to the answering machine and listened to the message.

"Hello Miguel, how's it going? I know that you're there looking around for clues to where I might have gone but I don't think you'll find any. Twenty-four hours have now passed and now you only have forty-eight hours left to find me which you probably won't, ha-ha. Well I gotta go and I'll see you later maybe. Oh forget about looking at the caller ID box because I don't have one! See you much later Miguelito. Bye."

I hung up. Miguel started laughing.

"Oh, you little brat. Don't be too sure of yourself Serena, I'll find you sooner than you think," Miguel said.

When I woke up it was 5:00 am, I got up and took a quick shower and got ready to leave. I checked out of the room and got into a cab that was outside.

"Where to ma'am?" said the cab driver.

"To the airport please."

"Okay."

We arrived at the airport and the cab left me at the terminal. I got my suitcase and walked inside. I had no idea where I was going so once again I walked over to the departure board and saw what flights were getting ready to leave. As I looked at the board I over heard a couple talking near me.

"Oh honey I can't wait to get there," the woman said.

"I know, I really looking forward to hearing all the singers that are going to be performing at Vina," the man said.

"Well let's go to the plane," said the woman.

"Let's go."

The couple left. I stood there for a few seconds and made my decision.

"Why not. Vina here I come," I said.

I bought my ticket and headed towards the plane. I sat across the aisle from the couple. The woman turned and looked at me.

"Hi there," she said.

"Hello."

"Are you going to the festival too?"

"Yes I am. Have you ever been to Vina Del Mar?" I said.

"No, this is our first time. We've heard so much about it that we decided that we would go this year. Have you ever been there?"

"No, I've always been too busy but then I decided at the last minute why not, so here I am."

"Good for you. Maybe we'll run into each other during the festival?"

"Maybe we will, but if we don't have a great time."

"Thanks, you too."

"Thanks."

The plane took off and we were now on our way to Chile. Meanwhile Miguel was still at my house getting ready to leave, when he opened the door my neighbor was standing there about to ring the doorbell.

"Hi," Gloria said.

"Hello," Miguel answered.

"Is Serena home?"

"No she's not here right now. Who are you?"

"I'm her neighbor, Gloria. Will she be home soon?"

"No, she went on a trip."

Gloria looked at Miguel. "Who are you?" she said.

"I'm sorry I didn't introduce myself. I'm a friend of Serena's, my name is Miguel. I dropped by looking for her too."

"And you have a key to her house?"

"Yes, just like she has a key to mine."

"Are you the Miguel that she speaks of from time to time?"

"The one and only. Would you have any ideas of where she might have gone?"

"Not really, but she did mention awhile ago when we were talking that she wanted to go to some festival."

"Festival? Where?"

"A music festival somewhere in Mexico. I can't remember exactly where. She showed me a brochure about it, maybe she has it on her desk?"

Gloria went inside and walked over to the desk and look around.

"Where could she have left it?" she said.

She then looked in the top drawer and found the brochure.

"Here it is."

She handed it to Miguel.

"Vina Del Mar in Chile," he said.

"Chile! That's the place. Maybe she headed there?"

"Maybe she did. Well thanks for the help, Gloria."

He took her hand in his and kissed it.

"You are more than welcome Miguel."

Gloria left. Miguel smiled a devilish kind of smile.

"It sounds like that's where I'll find you, I'll soon find out. Well Vina here comes Miguel."
